If enough nations ratify it, the OECD has revealed an international agreement that would replace various national tariffs on digital services. The treaty is the first phase of a twopart reform of multinational firms crossborder taxation, approved by about 140 countries in 2021. It targets a disjointed tax structure and enables big multinational corporations, particularly significant U.S. tech giants, to pay the least tax possible in highrevenue jurisdictions. The agreement specifies the transfer of taxing authority over around $200 billion in multinational earnings to the nations where the transactions occur. According to the OECD, this may result in a global tax collection of $17–32 billion.
