Dr. George Moghalu, the managing director of NIWA, stated that the Southeast is the destination of 65% of the cargo berthing in Nigeria through the Lagos ports. At a news conference on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, he announced this. The NIWA also intends to make Lake Chad a navigable inland waterway to other nations in Africa. The head of NIWA expressed concern about the threat of floating debris in important waterways, noting that NIWA spends a fortune each year getting rid of nonbiodegradable waste like plastic and rubber.
