Denso Corp, a major supplier to Toyota Motor Corp, cut its operating profit forecast for the current fiscal year by 14 % as it expects the automaker to fall behind production plans. The company reported a 41% slump in firstquarter profit, hurt by automakers production cuts and high costs of commodities and logistics. A twoyear chip shortage and supply disruptions partially caused by Chinas COVID19 curbs have forced car makers to repeatedly cut production. However, the recent glut of chips resulting from weak demand in other markets, such as consumer electronics, could eventually ease the way for automakers. The companys shares fell 2.78%, compared with a 0.46% gain for Japans benchmark Nikkei share average. Read More..

An Australian judge has ordered Samsung to be fined AUD 14 million $9.8 million for falsely advertising the water resistance of some smartphone models

An Australian judge has ordered Samsung to be fined AUD 14 million $9.8 million for falsely advertising the water resistance of some smartphone models. Samsung sold 3.1 million vulnerable phones in Australia, but courts could not determine how many customers found faulty charging ports. An unknown number of customers have had their ports replaced by Samsung Authorized Repairers. According to the court, the amount of the fine is greater than the income generated by Samsung Electronics at the time of the false advertising. Federal Judge Patrick Murphy said Samsung Australia should not get too much credit for cooperating with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commissions investigation into misleading advertising for Galaxy phones. The judge denied that Samsungs lawyers initially denied that the ad was misleading and that the phone could be submerged. Read More..
