Cybercriminals are using AnyDesk and Microsoft Teams to spread the harmful DarkGate ransomware. Trend Micro claims that attackers initially use Microsoft Teams to pose as outside vendors and send spam emails. They enable malware transmission by tricking victims into installing a phoney AnyDesk or "Microsoft Remote Support" program. As a backdoor, DarkGate enables attackers to install payloads, run commands, and exfiltrate private information. It is both an infostealer and a dropper because of its modular design, which improves functionality. Although this attempt was stopped, experts advise companies to adopt VPNs, multifactor authentication, phishing awareness training, and hardware and software updates to reduce such risks.
