Critical Vulnerability Discovered in FreeBSDs bhyve Hypervisor Urgent Upgrade Required

The bhyve hypervisor in FreeBSD has a severe vulnerability in its USB emulation feature when it is set to simulate devices on a virtual USB controller

The bhyve hypervisor in FreeBSD has a severe vulnerability in its USB emulation feature when it is set to simulate devices on a virtual USB controller XHCI, as discovered by a newly released security warning. This vulnerability can allow a privileged guest operating system to execute arbitrary code or cause the hypervisor to crash. It arises from inadequate boundary validation in the USB emulation code. This presents a significant danger because it gives hostile actors access to the host computer. Synacktiv researchers found this, and there isnt a fix as of right now. The FreeBSD Project recommends that users update to the most recent patched versions of FreeBSD, mentioning that restarting guest operating systems that employ XHCI emulation is necessary for the fix to take effect. CrowdStrike Apologizes for Global IT Outage Affecting 8.5M Devices, Delta Air Lines Considers Legal Action

A U.S. House panel heard an apology from Adam Meyers, a senior official at the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, over a July worldwide IT disruption

A U.S. House panel heard an apology from Adam Meyers, a senior official at the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, over a July worldwide IT disruption brought on by a bad software update. The issue affected over 8.5 million Microsoft Windows machines and caused disruptions to several businesses, such as banking, healthcare, and aviation. It was connected to the companys Falcon Sensor security software. With 7,000 flights cancelled, $500 million in losses, and a threat of legal action against CrowdStrike—which contests the claim—Delta Air Lines was particularly hard struck. Meyers insisted that the problem was caused by a configuration error rather than a cyberattack and reassured the committee that CrowdStrike is taking precautions to avoid another occurrence like this one. As a result of the continuing impact, the business has subsequently updated its financial estimates. Read More..

Security researchers say the Necro Trojan virus is distributed through Google Play apps and modified versions of wellknown programs like Spotify, WhatsApp, and Minecraft. This deadly spyware is capable of keystroke logging, data theft, malware installation, and remote command execution. Wuta Camera and Max Browser, two compromised apps, were removed from Google Play after being reported. Another significant risk is downloading modified APKs from unaffiliated websites. While they advertise premium features, they frequently end up spreading malware. The attackers employ several techniques to spread the virus, including Firebase exploitation and rogue SDKs. Avoid downloading apps from unreliable sites to protect your devices from malware and security lapses. Read More..

The Firefox browser allegedly tracks user behaviour without permission, according to a complaint against Mozilla that the Viennabased digital rights organisation NOYB filed with Austrias data protection authorities. The "privacypreserving attribution" function of Mozilla, according to privacy campaigner Max Schrems group NOYB, turns Firefox into a tracking tool by default, breaking EU privacy rules. In defence of the function, Mozilla said it provides an alternative to intrusive crosssite monitoring by assisting websites in evaluating adverts without collecting personal information about specific users. However, NOYB maintains that consumers ought to be informed and given a choice, advocating for the removal of data that has been handled illegally and an optin system. In the past, NOYB has complained against Google and other major tech companies. Read More..
