In preparation for the June elections for the European Parliament, Facebooks parent company, Meta, is forming a specialised team to combat misinformation and the abuse of generative artificial intelligence AI. Concerns over disseminating false AIgenerated information and the possibility of election meddling are growing. Thus, Meta intends to establish an Elections Operations Centre to keep an eye on the situation and take immediate action if necessary. The team will be made up of experts from various fields, including operations, research, engineering, intelligence, data science, content policy, and law. Additionally, Meta plans to increase the number of factchecking organisations within the European Union with whom it collaborates. Three additional partners—Bulgaria, France, and Slovakia—have been pledged by Meta.
