A Kenyan parliamentary committee has requested the nations information technology watchdog to prohibit Worldcoins operations until more stringent rules are implemented. Due to privacy issues with iris scanning for digital IDs, the government put the initiative on hold in August. Sam Altman of OpenAI cofounded Tools for Humanity, which developed Worldcoin and is also under investigation in the UK, Germany, and France. The panel recommends that Worldcoins virtual platforms be shut down, its associated IP addresses be blocked, and its physical presence be suspended until legal frameworks for virtual assets are in place.
