Indias commerce ministry established the nonprofit ONDC in 2021, and it is now opening up its rails to mobility companies like Namma Yatri, an ondemand auto rickshaw booking service. The interoperable mobile payments network known as UPI, which upended walledgarden mobile wallets from companies like Paytm and MobiKwik, is what ONDC is attempting to emulate. It will widen the types of vehicles it offers and extend its mobility initiatives to new states and towns.
