Intel has unveiled its new Flex Series of highperformance graphics processing units HPC aimed at cloud workloads including gaming, AI, and the metaverse. The chips feature a hardwarebased AV1 encoder – said to be an industry first in a data center GPU. They offer five times the media transcode throughput performance and twice the decode throughput performance of competing products. Intel has launched the Flex Series of highperformance graphics processing units HPC with support for 8K60 realtime transcoding on a dual Flex Series 140 card and up to 46 streams of 720p30 for selected game titles. The software stack uses one API and offers developers an alternative to proprietary programming models such as Nvidia Cuda. Initial products will be aimed at media delivery and Android cloud gaming workloads, followed by systems for Windows cloud gaming, AI, and VDI workloads. Read More..

Michael Ackland, director of the Consumer and Small Business Group, said the move builds on an earlier move from last August when there were no standard calls and texts from payphones. Ackland said the initiatives priority was to provide improved power reliability and WiFi capabilities to Telstras 1,000 pay phones in disasterprone areas. The operator said it made almost 19 million free calls from Telstra phones last year, including over 250,000 calls to essential services such as Triple Zero000 and Lifeline.
