Phishing emails are probably how the attackers started the attack, using this business security software as bait. Running a bogus "setup.exe" file on the victims computer allows the virus to install a phoney "GlobalProtect.exe," which installs and looks authentic while secretly damaging the system. The virus then speaks with a command and control C2 server, transmitting and receiving encrypted information to propagate throughout the network.
