Without the ozone layer, life on our planet would be seriously exposed to energetic photons that could damage DNA. A new paper claims that theres an ozone hole over the tropics seven times larger in area than the one over Antarctica. The ozone layer over the tropics is twice as thick as the ozone layer above the Antarctic, according to a new study by Canadian scientist Richard Lu. Ozone depletion in the region could cause great global concern, Lu writes. Increased ultraviolet exposure could increase the incidence of skin cancer and cataracts in humans, he says. Read More..
