Telstra has been ordered to deregistration of 315 900MHz radiocommunication sites by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ACCCC. Incumbent Optus has stopped rolling out 5G networks using previous access to the 900MHz spectrum. Telstra has provided a courtenforceable undertaking to address the issue, which has been accepted by the ACCC. Before 31 January 2022, it held just 109 registrations for 900MHz sites and hadnt registered a site since 2016. Optus has won all 900MHz spectrum on offer in the ACMAs spectrum auction, and Telstra has registered assignments at 315 sites, 153 of which have been deregistered, leaving 162 still registered. The ACCC said that had the likely effect of stopping Optus from getting early access to the 900MHz sites, and therefore prevented or hindered the telco from competing in the retail mobile market. BAI Communications Australia has been selected to lead one of four working groups scoping active sharing partnership models in phase one of the Active Sharing Partnership led by the Department of Regional NSW. The Partnership brings together infrastructure providers and Mobile Network Operators to collaboratively develop commercial and delivery models for four active sharing options. It is expected to provide implementation and operational cost benefits in the delivery of mobile networks over the next decade. The ORAN working group is currently designing a pilot program that can be deployed to several blackspot sites across Regional NSW. Preliminary commercial and delivery models were presented to DRNSW in June, with technical solutions and refined commercial and deployment models to be presented in August.
