Microsoft has confirmed that consumers who installed the January 2025 cumulative update are impacted by a broad audio fault in Windows 11 and 10. Although it can interfere with other audio configurations, the problem mainly affects USBconnected DACs digitaltoanalogue converters, especially those that use USB 1.0 audio drivers. Microsoft advises customers to connect audio devices to their PCs to avoid using external DACs, as they have not yet released a remedy. This pervasive problem affects several Windows versions, including 24H2, 23H2, 22H2, and Windows 10. Rumour has it that changes to a fundamental component of the Windows codebase cause the problem, even as Microsoft strives to find a solution. There should be a remedy in a future update. The American National Insurance Company ANICO is selling sensitive customer and employee data online years after a 2023 cyberattack made the material public. A seller provides a 90MB CSV file with 279,332 entries, including customer account IDs, personal information, and policy data, resurfacing the incident on a hacker community. Included are employee records that contain agency and managerial information. SafetyDetectives researchers discovered the listing on BreachForums and noted that the seller had supplied a sample to confirm the leak. According to Console & Associates, P.C., financial, medical, and Social Security numbers were also made public, although this has not been confirmed. The hack highlights the persistent dangers that arise when stolen information turns out years after it was first taken. Read More..

Researchers at Sygnia have discovered that cybercriminals use SSH tunnelling on VMware ESXi baremetal hypervisors for secret persistence, which facilitates the spread of ransomware on endpoints. SSH tunnelling provides safe traffic forwarding for management access, and VMware ESXi, which is used in data centres and virtualisation, allows numerous virtual machines to run on a single server. Via known flaws or stolen administrator credentials, attackers establish persistent backdoors utilising native SSH or comparable tools. Since ESXi appliances are rarely shut down and are frequently disregarded in cybersecurity efforts, they are an appealing target. Due to ESXis distribution of logs across several files, monitoring is challenging. To identify SSH tunnelling activity, IT teams must examine four essential logs. Increased security is recommended to lessen these risks. Read More..

The LLaMA Large Language Model LLM from Meta had a vulnerability CVE202450050 that allowed code to be executed remotely by deserialising untrusted data in the deployment tool Llama Stack. The vulnerability, which had a severity score of 6.3, resulted from socket communication using the unsafe pickle format. On 24 September, cybersecurity company Oligo Security notified Meta of the issue. On 10 October, version 0.0.41 was released, which replaced pickle with JSON for better serialisation. Additionally affected by the vulnerability was the pyzmq Python library, which has now been fixed. LLaMA, Metas AI model with an NLP focus, remains a significant player in text processing tasks with these security improvements. Read More..

After a cyberattack and website disruptions, Chinese firm DeepSeek briefly restricted registrations on Monday. This came as its AI assistant quickly rose to the top of the free app rankings in Apples U.S. App Store. Utilising less data and costing a fraction of rival models, the assistant—powered by the DeepSeekV3 model—became wellknown. Discussions concerning the efficacy of U.S. export restrictions on advanced semiconductors have been sparked by DeepSeeks assertion that its training expenses utilising Nvidias H800 chips were less than $6 million. The first Chinese AI model to be hailed by U.S. tech leaders as competing with or outperforming stateoftheart U.S. models, DeepSeek was founded in Hangzhou in 2023, and challenges preconceived notions about AI investment and dominance. DeepSeek, a Chinese startup, has introduced DeepSeek R1, an advanced AI model that has drawn interest as a rival to OpenAIs ChatGPT. Developed for reasoningintensive activities like coding and mathematics, this model promises to match or surpass some OpenAI models at a reduced cost. Because DeepSeek R1 prioritises efficiency and reduces memory usage and processing demands, researchers and developers can use it. Smaller laptop versions are also available. DeepSeek used presanctioned Nvidia A100 chips and less potent substitutes to defy US semiconductor export restrictions. In the tech world, the launch has generated conflicting responses. While some have praised the advancements in opensource development, others have voiced concerns about the companys strategies and geopolitical ramifications. Read More..
