In its January 2025 Product Security Bulletin, MediaTek addressed several security flaws in its chipsets, which are utilised in smart TVs, tablets, smartphones, and Internet of Things devices. The most significant weakness is a stack overflow vulnerability in MediaTeks modem firmware, which can connect a User Equipment UE device to an attackercontrolled rogue base station without needing elevated privileges or user input. Over 40 models, including different MT series chipsets, are affected by this problem. The advisory also identifies several highseverity flaws in the Digital Audio subsystem and power management that could permit local privilege escalation and grant unauthorised access to private information. MediaTek has sent out security fixes and alerted device manufacturers to these vulnerabilities, advising customers to upgrade their devices as soon as possible. Read More..
