SmolVLM can be used for personal and business purposes and is opensourced under the Apache 2.0 license. The model can be deployed on laptops or localised systems because it uses less GPU RAM 5.02GB than larger models like Qwen2VL. Base, Synthetic tuned on synthetic data, and Instruct optimised for enduser applications are the two variations of SmolVLM. In contrast to Qwen2VL, which uses 16,000 tokens for processing prompts and a single image, it effectively encodes text and pictures into tokens.
