Using a new malware outbreak named NimDoor, North Korean hackers are aiming to steal private data and cryptocurrencies from Mac users. SentinelLabs found NimDoor, which is developed in the obscure Nim programming language to avoid detection and employs asynchronous sleep timers and AppleScript for persistence and stealth. The attack starts with Telegram, where users are misled into installing a phoney update that spreads malware after being tricked into attending phoney Zoom meetings. Following installation, it exfiltrates information such as cookies, browsing history, Telegram data, and Keychain passwords. This activity is part of a growing trend of North Korean cyber operations that target Web3 companies between 2021 and 2025, groups like Lazarus were implicated in over $3.4 billion worth of cryptocurrency heists.
