According to the nations digital ministry, Russia intends to ban several Virtual Private Networks VPNs and protocols deemed dangerous. Following Russias restriction of access to several Western social media platforms, there has been a surge in demand for VPN services. Russia passed legislation in 2017 requiring VPN companies to work with law enforcement and block access to prohibited information, or risk being blacklisted.
