Researchers from Abnormal Security have warned that hackers are using Microsofts Active Directory Federation Services ADFS to steal passwords and private information. Phishing emails purporting to be from the IT team start the attack by asking users to reauthenticate because of a system update. Victims are taken to a fake ADFS login page where their credentials and multifactor authentication MFA codes are stolen when clicking the link. Using this information attackers can move laterally within networks, login, and steal data. About 150 organisations are impacted, and the targeted industries include the public sector, healthcare, and education. The campaign is driven more by financial motivations than espionage since hackers alter email filters and retrieve private data to profit. Read More..

Cristiano Amon, the CEO of Qualcomm, declared that Arm Holdings had no longer threatened to revoke Qualcomms licence. The conflict, which started in October 2024, focused on the technology found in Qualcomms chips for personal computers. Arm first claimed Qualcomm had broken the contract, but it has now stated it has no immediate plans to end the arrangement. A jurys decision in December that Qualcomms PC chips were appropriately licensed under its contract with Arm was a significant legal win for the company. Arm has since submitted a move for a fresh trial, nevertheless, because the jury could not agree on key aspects of the case. The move guarantees Qualcomms continuous access to Arms semiconductor technologies. Read More..

AMD Fixes Critical Zen CPU Flaw That Could Undermine SEV Security

AMD has fixed CVE202456161, a highseverity vulnerability with a severity score of 7.2/10 that affects its Zen 1 to Zen 4 CPUs. Researchers from Google

AMD has fixed CVE202456161, a highseverity vulnerability with a severity score of 7.2/10 that affects its Zen 1 to Zen 4 CPUs. Researchers from Google found that the CPU ROM microcode patch loader has a problem that involves incorrect signature verification, which might allow malicious microcode to be loaded by attackers with local administrator rights. The security and integrity of virtual machines operating using AMDs Secure Encrypted Virtualisation SEVSNP technology may be jeopardised. In midDecember 2024, AMD published a mitigation update that necessitated updating the SEV firmware and microcode on specific devices. To give customers time to apply updates, the corporation postponed public disclosure. To enable mitigation attestation, users need to update their BIOS and restart it. Read More..

In contrast to Nvidias 20year forecast, Google hopes to introduce commercial quantum computing applications in five years. According to Hartmut Neven, head of Google Quantum AI, practical uses in medicine development, materials science, and energy alternatives may materialise. Quantum computing, which uses "qubits" rather than conventional bits to process information, has the potential to transform the financial, healthcare, and cybersecurity industries completely. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang estimates that practical applications may take 15 to 30 years. Still, Google has made significant progress, including addressing issues that would take aeons for traditional computers to finish in only a few minutes. In a recent article published in Nature, Googles novel approach to quantum simulation is highlighted, reaffirming the companys goal of commercialising quantum computing far sooner than anticipated. Apples nextgeneration M5 processor, which is anticipated to power devices launching in the second half of 2025, has reportedly started mass manufacturing. According to a South Korean publication, the M5 is being fabricated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company TSMC using their 3nm N3P process, which offers a 5% performance gain and increased power efficiency. According to reports, packaging started in January and is handled by OSAT companies like ASE, Amkor, and JCET. Expected to be the first product to use the M5, the iPad Pro will be followed by the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Vision Pro versions. Highend models, such as the M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra, are also being developed by Apple using cuttingedge packaging technologies to improve thermal performance and AI capabilities. Read More..

With sampling for important clients starting this quarter and full production ramping up by mid2025, AMD is expected to ship its Instinct MI350 data centre GPUs earlier than anticipated. According to CEO Lisa Su, the schedule was accelerated due to strongthanexpected development and excellent consumer demand. Despite lagging behind Nvidia, AMDs data centre revenue has gradually increased because of significant customers like IBM, Microsoft, and Meta. With sales of its Instinct chips surpassing $5 billion in 2024, AMD anticipates doubledigit growth in 2025. Of AMDs $7.1 billion in total revenue last year, $3.9 billion came from data centres. Su thinks there is still a high need for AI computing, making MI350 a crucial component of AMDs data centre business growth. Read More..
