As of today, users of Airtel and Telkom will have access to Safaricom’s bill payment platform following the improvement of seamless display fees by merchants linked to various operators. Interoperability allows different IT systems to communicate and exchange data of the two rival networks for merchant payments. From 2024, mobile phone users will be able to deposit and withdraw money at any agent on any network. Mobile money customers on TKash and Airtel Money will be able to make mobile payments to an MPESA Paybill Number, a telecommunications official said. The move is part of efforts by regulators to curb the dominance of Safaricoms mobile money service and Lipa mPesa. There are no customs charges for bulk payments made using Lipa except for settlements at fuel stations. Read More..
