A bootloader flaw in Ciscos NXOS software that affects more than 100 switch types has been fixed, enabling attackers to get around image signature verification. This vulnerability results from unsafe bootloader configurations, which allow attackers with administrative privileges or physical access to run bootloader instructions and load unconfirmed software. Devices of all configurations, including Nexus 3000, 7000, 9000 Series Switches, MDS 9000 Series Switches, and UCS 6500 and 6400 Series Fabric Interconnects, are impacted. According to Cisco, there are no workarounds for this problem, and some older models—like the Nexus 92160YCX—will not be fixed because they are no longer supported.
