The Australian Government has taken steps to improve energy affordability, including interim price restrictions and ceilings on domestic gas and coal, as well as $1.5 billion in targeted bill assistance for the most vulnerable businesses and people. The Energy Price Relief bill passed the upper chamber of Parliament late this afternoon with 28 votes in favour and 22 against, after passing the lower house 8541. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the law as essential and urgent in order to promote industry, business, manufacturing, jobs, and families. The first of the four key measures is a 12month interim price ceiling on uncontracted gas at $12 per gigajoule GJ.
