Barracuda has released its fourthannual threat research report on ransomware. For the past 12 months, researchers identified and analyzed 106 highly publicized ransomware attacks. The main targets are five main areas education, municipality, health, infrastructure, and finance. The volume of ransomware threats detected spiked between January and June of this year to more than 1.2 million per month. For the 106 highly publicized attacks our researchers analyzed, the dominant targets are still education 15%, municipalities 12%, healthcare 12%, and infrastructure 8%. The number of ransomware attacks in each of these five areas has increased over the years. Attacks on other industries doubled compared to last years report.
