The trains, made by French company Alstom, are operated by regional rail company LNVG on routes between the northern towns of Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, and Buxtehude. Telstra is offering free WiFi to 3,000 pay phones starting today and plans to upgrade its phone network to support free WiFi for the next few years. Michael Ackland, director of the Consumer and Small Business Group, said the move builds on an earlier move from last August when there were no standard calls and texts from payphones. Ackland said the initiatives priority was to provide improved power reliability and WiFi capabilities to Telstras 1,000 pay phones in disasterprone areas. The operator said it made almost 19 million free calls from Telstra phones last year, including over 250,000 calls to essential services such as Triple Zero000 and Lifeline. IT services provider NTT Data announced Tuesday that it will open a new research and development center in Plano. The Japanese companys North American Innovation Center will work with customers to develop advanced technology solutions. NTT Data hired two people from the Plano center and brought in three people from other sources, said Teresa Kushner, director of the Plano Center. The company plans to at least double the number of staff at its centers this year, and capacity is still growing. The Innovation Hub explores how artificial intelligence can help design cities, for example by equipping residents with everything they need within a 15minute walk or bike ride.
