Exodus Intelligences security specialists have examined the vulnerability and found that the Lazarus Group has exploited it to distribute the advanced malware FudModule. Due to a race issue in the Registered I/O extension of Windows sockets, this vulnerability allows attackers to alter released buffer structures, facilitating privilege escalation. According to the researchers, the vulnerability can be exploited to change essential system structures and gain elevated privileges through a multistage attack method that includes heap spraying.
