South African innovators have urged the government to loosen restrictions that are hindering the countrys technology startups in light of recent data showing that the countrys performance has fallen behind that of numerous African rivals in this field. According to the African Tech Firms Funding Report 2022, which was released on February 6th, South Africas 78 startups who sought funding saw a reduction of 12.4% from the prior year and a 2% decrease in the US$329,707,000 they netted. This contrasts South Africa with the rest of Africa, where in 2022 both investments and the number of startups reached record highs. The SA Startup Act Movement is requesting that the government ease exchange restrictions and other onerous regulations for startups with an annual revenue of less than $100 million  rand US$5.7m.
